July 2024 - Game Convention and more!


Things were busy in the last month! In addition to some updates to the primary game, Realms & Ruins: Abencor was accepted to an indie developer contest at a local retro gaming convention. I only had a short time to throw together a demo, but I got it done. I had lots of great feedback, made some local connections and had a ton of fun. 

There was some miscommunication for the actual contest and I got an email back from the organizer that the judges didn't judge all the contestants! I had a great time either way and will be taking the feedback I got and incorporating it into the game. All of this months updates are below!

Main Build

  • 6 new underwater creatures created, statted and animated
  • change default location of hp/mp bar (still draggable) 
  • Completed new map in water biome
  • Updated behavior, stats and loot tables of 15 creatures 
  • Create a vault/storage system. 
  • Placed vault NPC's and buildings in every  major town (culceth, mandora, ivywood) 
  • Difficulty adjustment for catacomb enemies - reduce strength of entry level enemies


Demo Build (not publicly available at the moment, and I will integrate this into the main game)

  • Created multiple snow and ice related tiles
  • Created frost cave dungeon
  • Scripted puzzles for frost cave
  • Created, statted and animated 8 new creatures related to the frost cave 
  • Added music for frost cave, including music for the boss encounter
  • Created 3 unique items found in the frost cave (secrets abound!)
  • Scripted and tested AOE components of a fireball wand
  • Created mana potion and scripted functionality
  • Scripted boss encounter for frost cave/demo dungeon
  • Scripted resistances related to wearing frost armor
  • Scripted on-hit special effects for enemies in cave
  • Added snow 

Back to work and I'll post another update sometime in August!
